Description
Sweet potato hand pies are a delicious and portable treat. They feature a flaky crust filled with spiced sweet potato mash. Perfect for snacks or dessert.
Ingredients

- 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 4–6 tbsp ice water
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix mashed sweet potatoes, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl. Set aside.
- Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, until dough comes together.
- Roll dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into circles.
- Place a spoonful of sweet potato filling on one half of each circle. Fold dough over and crimp edges with a fork.
- Brush tops with beaten egg. Cut small slits on top for venting.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Cool before serving.
Notes
- Use leftover mashed sweet potatoes or bake fresh ones.
- Adjust sugar and spices to taste.
- Dough can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 2 days.
