- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- For honey butter: 1/2 cup softened butter, 2 tbsp honey
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place a 10-inch cast-iron skillet in the oven to heat.
- In a bowl, mix cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk milk, honey, egg, and melted butter.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients. Stir until just mixed.
- Remove hot skillet from oven. Pour batter into the skillet.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- For honey butter, mix softened butter and honey until smooth.
- Serve warm cornbread with honey butter.
Notes
- Use a hot skillet for a crispy crust.
- Do not overmix the batter.
- Adjust honey to taste in the butter.
