Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
- In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and molasses, mixing well.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and hot water to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
- For extra flavor, add 1/2 cup chopped crystallized ginger to the batter.
- Serve warm with butter or cream cheese frosting.
