Ingredients

- 1 cup red lentils
- 3 cups water
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp coriander
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse the lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a pot, heat the oil and sauté the onion, garlic, and ginger until soft.
- Add the spices and stir for 30 seconds to release their aroma.
- Add the lentils and water, then bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Season with salt and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
Notes
- Soak lentils for 30 minutes to reduce cooking time.
- Adjust spice levels to your preference.
- Serve with rice or flatbread.
