Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spread cherry pie filling evenly in a greased 9-inch round cake pan.
  3. Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk, mixing until smooth.
  6. Pour batter over cherries and bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
