Ingredients

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh herbs (such as parsley, chives, or thyme)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Grease a popover pan or muffin tin.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and pepper.
- In another bowl, mix milk, eggs, and melted butter.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just blended.
- Fold in cheese and herbs.
- Fill each cup 2/3 full with batter.
- Bake for 20 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 15 more minutes.
- Remove from oven and serve warm.
Notes
- Do not open the oven during baking to prevent popovers from collapsing.
- For crispier popovers, bake an extra 5 minutes.
- Substitute any hard cheese if preferred.
