Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1/2 cup sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon for coating
Instructions
- Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
- In another bowl, mix apple cider, buttermilk, granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg, and melted butter.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
- Chill dough for 30 minutes.
- Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into donut shapes.
- Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts for 1-2 minutes per side until golden.
- Drain on paper towels, then coat in cinnamon sugar.
Notes
- Use fresh apple cider for best flavor.
- Don’t overmix the dough to keep donuts tender.
- Let oil return to temperature between batches.
