Description

Classic apple cider donuts with a sweet cinnamon sugar coating. Perfect for fall or any time you crave a warm, spiced treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Reduce apple cider by simmering until it thickens to 1/2 cup. Let cool.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Mix in buttermilk and reduced apple cider.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  6. Chill dough for 1 hour.
  7. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into donut shapes.
  8. Fry in 375°F oil for 1-2 minutes per side or bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.
  9. Mix sugar and cinnamon for coating. Toss warm donuts in mixture.

  • Use a candy thermometer for accurate oil temperature.
  • For baked donuts, grease the pan well.
